ABOUT
The FDA
recently announced it is taking new steps to modernize and strengthen the regulation of dietary supplements. As they move forward, they are committed to ensuring that their regulatory framework is flexible enough to allow for innovation while continuing to fulfill their responsibility to evaluate product safety. FDA invites public input about whether and how they might adjust their current dietary supplement regulatory approach and enforcement policies to better account for the growth seen in the dietary supplement industry over the past 25 years.
FDA is seeking to have a broad representation of ideas and issues presented at the meeting. They expect to cover a range of subjects, including: the scope of what is a dietary ingredient, clarification of exemptions from the requirement for pre-market new dietary ingredient (NDI) notification, and challenges and opportunities in promoting overall compliance with the NDI notification requirement through avenues such as marketing advantages and enforcement.
For more information about the meeting, as well as how to participate in the meeting or submit written comments afterwards, see
