Eligible University of Maryland, College Park undergraduates are invited to complete and submit applications for the JIFSAN Internship Program’s 2024-25 cohort. Projects range in area and focus—biological sciences, chemistry, nutritional sciences, public health, as well as media and communications—and enable students to receive firsthand training and experience in food safety and public health careers.

Internships begin in the summer and run for one full academic year, ending in the spring, with the ability to possibly be renewed thereafter based upon project availability, good academic standing, mentor recommendation, and available funding.

Applications for the 2024-25 cohort are currently being accepted and are due by March 15, 2024. Interested students should view our Internship Database to review current open projects and may apply by completing an application including: 1) JIFSAN Paid Internship Initial Application, 2) Resume/CV, and 3) Unofficial transcript (including courses for which you are already registered). All three items should be assembled into a single PDF document and uploaded to the webform located at go.umd.edu/jifsan.

Eligible interns must be enrolled full or part-time as an undergraduate, degree-seeking student at the University of Maryland, College Park; must have completed two college semesters prior to internship start date; and must be willing and able to devote approximately 30 hours per week during the summer and 8-10 hours per week during fall and spring. (Foreign nationals must also be able to pass a background check that is predicated upon their residency in the U.S. for three full years during the last five years in order to gain access to FDA facilities.)
